At Proclean we have an arsenal of cleaning products, tips and tricks but here are our top 10 tips for cleaning around the home.
1. Use rubber gloves to remove pet hair
If your beloved pet has fluffed up your house and it’s making you sneeze, there’s a cheap and easy solution. A damp rubber glove can easily be dragged over soft furnishings like sofas and curtains (and even trouser legs!) to remove pet hair and fur.
2. Use water and a lemon to clean your microwave
If your microwave isn’t looking it’s best after one too many food explosions, don’t panic – it can easily be cleaned for free. Just pop a heat-proof cup filled with water with half a lemon and its juice in the microwave on a high setting for a minute or two. Leave the mixture in the microwave with the door closed for 5 minutes and let the steam do its work, then easily wipe down the inside of your microwave. The added benefit is the lemon will leave your entire kitchen smelling clean and fresh!
3. A fabric softener sheet can stop your bin smelling
Isn’t it annoying when you empty your bin to find it’s still a bit wiffy afterwards. If you’ve got a smelly bin, just pop a fabric softener sheet into it alongside the bin bag for an instant air freshener. You can even try different scented varieties too!
4. Clean your chopping boards with lemon
Our chopping boards get a lot of use, from joints of meat and fillets of fish, to cutting up fruit and vegetables – so it’s no wonder they end up looking a bit tired. Cut a lemon in half and rub over the board, this is great for lifting stains as well as removing any smells. Still not clean enough? Sprinkle with baking soda and repeat.
5. Clean silver quickly and easily with toothpaste
If you’re lucky enough to own some lovely silver bits and bobs, keeping them in tip-top condition couldn’t be simpler. Buff up those wedding presents and silver jewellery with a dab of water and a little toothpaste. Rinse and dry with a cloth and it should look good as new. One of the most satisfying cleaning jobs around.
6. Remove coffee stains with toothpaste
Coffee stained mug? Just like coffee staining on teeth, the answer to your problem is in the bathroom cabinet. Get rid of tea or coffee stains from your favourite cup by rubbing with toothpaste. Then give it a good rinse to make sure your next beverage doesn’t taste minty!
7. Get rid of burning smells with salt
Burnt your dinner? If the house now smells of burning, just sprinkle some salt over your burnt pans or any food mess to reduce it. Then cut your losses and order a takeaway!
8. Clean your pans for free with aluminium foil
Tin foil has many uses – for one thing you can use it in place of a scourer. Just scrunch it up into a ball and give pots and pans a scrub. It’s a great way to recycle your sandwich wrapping, as well as saving you money.
9. Remove scuff marks from your laminate or vinyl floor with a tennis ball
Is your lovely floor suffering with scuff marks? Not to worry as there’s an easy solution. Make a small hole in a tennis ball, place on the end of a broomstick or mop handle, gently rub across the scuff marks and watch them disappear before your eyes.
10. Get rid of greasy fingerprints from walls with white bread
It sounds weird, but rubbing finger marks with a slice of white bread will give your walls a new lease of life! We’re not sure how someone discovered this, but we’re grateful they did…
….. and here’s a bonus tip
Quick and easy method to clean paper lampshades.
Gently wipe across the lampshade with a fabric softener sheet to remove the dust. You have the added benefit of a lovely fragrance when you turn the light on and the shade warms up. It also helps to prevent static build up which in turn stops the shade attracting dust in the future.
